To this day, Hanover\'s Marktkirche dominates the historic city centre: built in the 14th century, the three-nave Gothic hall church was destroyed during the Second World War, leaving only the outer walls, columns and medieval roof truss intact, but it was rebuilt between 1946 and 1952. With his \'reinterpretation of Gothic architecture\', architect Dieter Oesterlen succeeded in reviving the original character of a medieval hall church. The brickwork, which is now also exposed inside the church, has become the dominant element and creates a special effect with its warm colour.
