Medieval and Early Modern Art in Central Europe is a collection\nof essays that grew out of the papers presented at a thematic conference\nin Nowy Sącz, Poland, in 2017. The volume unites scholars from the Czech\nRepublic, Great Britain, Poland, Ukraine and the United States. The\nintroduction, by the editors Waldemar Deluga and Daniela Rywiková,\noutlines the rationale behind the joint publication that represents a cross-\nsection of the most recent Central European scholarship in a French-\nEnglish language volume. The book covers the issues of me-dieval and\nearly renaissance book illumination, the art related to female monasteries, and tran-sitions\nfrom the Gothic to Renaissance in iconography, architecture and style of manuscript\nminiatures. In the last part, there are reflections on the art of national minorities in the\nformer Kingdom of Poland and the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and two articles discussing the\nicono-graphy of Eastern Christian art in Ukraine.
