Multinational organisations have for a long time relied onthe performance of international teams. Nevertheless, the successor failure of these teams is not yet well understood. In this book,Angelika Zimmermann argues that mutual adjustment betweeninternational team members is fundamental for their successfulcooperation. She provides evidence from eleven teams of fourcombinations of nationalities - German-British, German-Japanese,German-Indian, and German-Austrian - in two German companies. In aone-year longitudinal study, in-depth interviews and observationswere conducted with 116 participants. The resulting model capturesmutual adjustment at the level of cognitive processes, attitudesand behaviours of team members. It further demonstrates how theseinternal adjustment components are influenced by external contextfactors. External factors are seen to influence the powerrelationships between team members, which in turn determine thedirection of adjustment.
