Tracking a relic
The aerophor or 'tone sustaining apparatus' invented by the flutist Bernard Samuels (1872-1944) was a promising solution for the breathing problems of wood- and brasswind players in view of the continually increasing demands made by composers on their breathing capacity. The apparatus quickly found wide dissemination in European and American orchestras - to then fall into oblivion in the turmoil of the Second World War.
The book is in two languages.
