This work focuses on the study of Egyptian§corn-mummies. The aim is to record and analyse this§class §of objects in terms of form, decoration, §representational theme, archaeological and cultural §context, chronology and use. §Corn-mummies are mummiform objects, 35 50 cm long, §made from a mixture of earth and grain, wrapped in §resin-soaked linen bandages and often provided with §Osirian wax mask and four small packages interpreted §as the Sons of Horus. §A catalogue, comprising 96 specimens, is provided as §basis for their interpretation in the light of §literary, pictorial and archaeological related §evidence, associated religious beliefs and symbolic §concepts. §This book constitutes a valid contribution to the §study of ancient Egyptian religious practice and a §very useful resource both for scholars interested in §traditions surroundings the god Osiris and for §museum curators and others who wish to situate §particular corn-mummies within a broader temporal §and symbolic context.
