Markus Mittringer has been a participating observer of the Austrian art scene for more than twenty-five years. His photographs are not result-oriented; he does not stage or light anything, does not need heavy equipment or privileged access-after all, he also wants to partake in the events that he occasionally captures. They show what one might have once expe- rienced, done, seen, or even missed or lost. Mittringer juxtaposes these pictures from past big-city nights with the timeless, melancholy impressions of a lonely country vagabond, keeping his respectful distance, like saying farewell.
